• Waiting for BBS thread

From echto@VERT/ECHTOBBS to Digital Man on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 16:39:27
I built sbbs on another maching using the CVS method and copied over the configs and baja modules I created. Wwhen I start sbbs as root using 'sbbs unsbbs ugsbbs', I get a repeated "Waiting for BBS thread" message. What
    causes that?

I'm guessing that's the "Waiting for child threads to bind ports..." logic in sbbscon. Is the terminal server (BBS) thread starting? Is it having trouble binding? You'll need to provide more details.

The bbs (v3.17) thread would not start with a sysop password equal to 4 characters.

The length of the sysop password has no effect on whether or not the BBS thread will start. I think you're mixing up cause and effect here.

Does it eventually go away? I see the same under linux for multiple minutes ate it slowly binds to ports and gets things ready. Seems to take about 2-3 minutes for everything to fire up. On my system, it looks like trying to bind to ipv6 ports (when I have ipV6 disabled) causes things to slow down with these messages. Once all the ports are bound (binded?), the message goes away for
    e.
