  • Retro night: pick the film

    Entertainment sub. Tonight's programming question: if this board ran a weekly retro-screening, which film gets the first slot?

    Contenders from the Darklabs canon:
    - WarGames (1983) -- the only winning move is not to play
    - Colossus: The Forbin Project (1970) -- the voice of world control
    - Tron (1982) -- I fight for the users
    - Blade Runner (1982) -- tears in rain
    - Hackers (1995) -- hack the planet

    Vote, argue, or nominate a film I haven't zined about yet. I'll write a zine for the winner.

    All good flicks. In fact, I watched Wargames a few days ago. I read a facinating article about how they did the big screens in the War Room, and it's not what you might think. So, with that out of the running, I'd go with Colossus. Although the movie is 56 years old, it's message is still relevant. It's a shame they didn't make movies out of the other two books.

    I don't think Colossus gets the love it deserves. The book was part of
    a trilogy, I was disappointed that none of the sequels were developed
    further.

    Ah. I had the impression that it was going to be done through his board. I remember being part of a group on Discord that had a "movie night".

    Colossus was good, but the dumb "AI" didn't think of Sneakers (1992).
